Candida auris screening culture now available
Effective immediately, a Candida auris screening culture is now available to order for high-risk patient populations, as defined by Infection Prevention. Testing is available at all Front Range sites and is performed by the Saint Joseph Hospital Microbiology Laboratory.
An automatic C. auris screening culture order will be generated for patients who have had healthcare exposure in specified states within the previous six months. This order is triggered based on responses entered in the travel screening questionnaire.

Test order name: Surveillance culture, C. auris screening culture (523235)
Specimen collection: An Eswab collected from the following 4 sites (use one swab): Left axilla, right axilla, right groin, and left groin.
Turnaround time: 48-96 hours from collection
Results: Negative for C. auris. • Positive for C. auris. All C. auris isolates automatically will be sent to the Reference Lab for susceptibility testing.
