Elizabeth Arena, DO, selected as Peaks medical director of Provider Experience
We are thrilled to announce that Elizabeth Arena, DO, has been appointed the medical director of Provider Experience for the Peaks Region. This prestigious role is a testament to Dr. Arena's dedication, expertise and leadership in the field of healthcare.
In this regional role, Dr. Arena will lead the implementation of Intermountain Health’s strategy for the professional fulfillment of our employed and affiliated physicians and advanced practice providers.
Reporting directly to regional chief medical officer Dr. Rob Ferguson, she will be the primary interface between regional and enterprise leadership on matters of physician well-being, professional fulfillment, leadership development and engagement.
"I hope to help Peaks providers thrive, grow and know they are supported and appreciated as humans first, healthcare providers second, as they continue to provide exceptional care," Dr. Arena said.
Dr. Arena brings 14 years of clinical practice as a rheumatologist in various settings, including private practice, HMO, rural hospital and Intermountain. She employs a holistic approach to healthcare, focusing on nutrition, sleep, stress reduction, movement and mindset. Dr. Arena has volunteered on multiple committees, including EMR efficiency, quality improvement, and well-being. She has successfully opened and grown two rheumatology practices and launched the quarterly Well-being Grand Rounds at St Mary's Regional Hospital. Her academic background includes a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Vermont, an MA in Biomedical Ethics from Case Western Reserve University, and both a DO and MPH from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine, with residency and fellowship at Loma Linda University.
In her new role, Dr. Arena will advocate for policies and initiatives that promote the well-being and professional growth of our physicians and APPs. She will develop strong relationships with hospital leadership and affiliated healthcare groups to ensure the integration of physician/APP well-being principles into health system operations.
"I have learned and personally experienced that when physicians and APPs are holistically healthy (mind, body and spirit) and supported with their wellbeing as well as our humanity, they are better able to serve, function and connect with their patients, colleagues and teams," Dr. Arena said. "This holistic approach expands our capacity to deliver exceptional care and thrive in our medical community."
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Elizabeth Arena on this well-deserved appointment. We are confident that her leadership will greatly contribute to the continued success and well-being of our healthcare professionals in the Peaks Region.
