Longtime physicians share love for Platte Valley
Neary two decades ago, we opened the doors to our newly built Platte Valley. But our history of caring for the residents and families in the Brighton area extends back to 1960, when community leaders raised half-a-million dollars to build and open a local hospital. The fruits of their labor, Brighton Community Hospital, became Platte Valley in 1980, and we moved to our current location in 2007.
We’re about to mark 20 years on Prairie Center Parkway during a period of rapid and unprecedented community growth. The population has roughly doubled in size since we moved to our current location, and many economic indicators show no signs of it slowing down.
But that’s exactly what we asked some of our longtime physicians to do: Stop for just a moment, think about your career at Platte Valley, and share with us why you’ve chosen to make Platte Valley your homebase for a meaningful career in helping others heal and thrive.
James Meyer, MD, Sleep Medicine, 29 years on our medical staff: “The patients I have encountered and my office staff are the highlight of my career at Platte Valley Hospital.”
Shad Grubbs, MD, Hospital Medicine, 23 years: “I was blessed to be welcomed to Brighton and to Platte Valley Medical Center 24 years ago when I accepted my first position here following my training. One of the aspects I appreciate most about my work here is the diverse mix of people I have an opportunity to serve. I enjoy caring for patients from both suburban communities and the surrounding rural farming areas. It brings a unique variety of experiences and perspectives. What stands out most is how genuinely caring and kind these individuals are, which makes my work especially meaningful and rewarding. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to live and work in this community.”
Lisa Taylor, MD, General Radiology, 18 years: “It has been exciting to see the growth in pediatric care at PV, so important for this part of town. The providers have been excellent to work with, and I am looking forward to watching the growth of the NICU and other peds programs!”
Denise Slusher, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology, 18 years: “I love the long-term continuity I have with many of my patients! I have seen many women through the birth of their children and then into menopause. It is so fun to see my patients year after year! We are a small medical staff and many of the doctors have been here for more than a decade. We've worked together and been to parties and conferences together, so we know each well. I believe that this hospital will continue to grow with the community. We will continue to be a tight-knit community and take care of this great town.”
Janine Lechleitner, NP, Pediatrics, 17 years: “I most enjoy being able to care for children and their families in the community where I have lived for almost 26 years and have raised my own children.”
We thank these members of our medical staff and all physicians and APPs who’ve joined us on our mission to care for this community. We’re honored you’ve chosen to spend your career at Platte Valley.
