Lutheran APP wins LOVE Award
Sam Cinadr, NP, Hematology & Oncology, recently won an Intermountain LOVE Award for advocating for a patient who experienced a rare and serious reaction to cancer treatment.
The Intermountain LOVE Awards program celebrates and recognizes those who are witnessed Living Our Values Everyday by delivering the best-possible care, services and experiences to all they encounter.
Sam was nominated by a colleague who said, “Sam was part of the care team for a very complicated patient who experienced a rare and serious side effect of his cancer treatment. She had the intuition that something was wrong with the patient and consulted oncology clinical pharmacy to help evaluate the adverse reaction. Sam advocated for the patient to be admitted to the hospital on a Friday afternoon, then checked on the patient throughout the weekend. The hospital was planning to discharge the patient on Monday, but Sam continued to be concerned and convinced the inpatient team to have the patient stay. It was discovered that the cancer treatment was impacting another organ system. Sam made sure the appropriate specialist was consulted. Without Sam's relentless advocacy for the patient, this rare complication likely would have gone undiagnosed. This is one example of how Sam goes above and beyond for her patients. She is not only an expert clinician but is an excellent communicator and collaborator.”
Cinadr has worked as an advanced practice professional in Lutheran's Medical Oncology Clinic since 2022 and says her favorite part about her job are the patients and colleagues she gets to interact with every day.
“The way that staff comes together to put in the extra time and effort to do the right thing for the patient is unmatched and, quite honestly, inspiring,” said Sam. “We are there for each other emotionally for the tough and sad times and we truly care for each other as friends. The bonds that I and all the staff make with our patients are priceless. Being in the oncology field means that we see the same patients on a frequent basis. My office visits with patients often include exchanging life updates outside of the clinic, photos of family, trips and hugs. I am so thankful to get to interact with all of these amazing people every day.”
Thank you, Sam, and all members of our medical staff for your compassion and expert clinical care!
