Peaks Blood Supply Update & How You Can Help
The following update (June 17, 2026) is from Vitalant regarding blood supply across the Peaks Region.
Both O-positive and O-negative red blood cell inventories are now at Level 2, which means supply is well below normal levels. All other products remain at stable levels.
What this means for our patients:
The O-positive and O-negative blood supply is significantly limited
We are reserving available inventory for urgent and emergent patient needs
What we are asking of you:
Please take the following actions immediately within your teams:
Assess your inventory and use blood products carefully, following established PBM principles
Order blood products only when clinically necessary for immediate patient care
Expect delays in resupply for all orders
Continue to prioritize patients with urgent or emergent transfusion needs
Donate blood if you are well and physically able to do so
Why this matters:
At some facilities, inventory levels are being reduced to safety stock based on historical use, which further limits availability. Our ability to provide lifesaving transfusions depends on how carefully we manage the supply we have.
