Physician’s summer heats up with 8 cool days in Iceland
Sarah Rosquist, MD, Anesthesiology, her husband, Mark, and 6-year-old daughter, Charlotte, spent eight days this summer sightseeing through Iceland’s west and southwest regions and southern coast — together an area packed with spectacular, dramatic beauty and expansive views. Looking at these pictures, it’s no wonder these natural wonders often are perched right on top of most global travelers’ bucket lists! She details of her trip below.
“At the end of June, we went to Snaefellsnes Peninsula, the Golden Circle and the South Coast of Iceland. We love natural beauty, and everywhere you turn in Iceland is filled with that. Our favorite sites included Pingvellir National Park (walking between two tectonic plates), Katla Ice Cave and Glacier Lagoon/Diamond Beach. We also loved all the waterfalls — Seljalandsfoss was probably our favorite because we could walk behind it!
“The locals were friendly and practical. We ate at the Frioheimar Tomato Green House, and it was a highlight!
“For anyone planning a trip, I think if you have the time to do the entire Ring Road (an 821-mile paved road that loops the entire country) that would be great — it's what we will do if we make it back. But for one week I think we hit a lot of highlights. The South Coast was our favorite part. The glaciers, waterfalls and puffins were epic! The town of Vik was a great home base for this part of the country. The Golden Circle had a lot of popular sights, but they were also the most crowded.”
