Proposed Medical Staff Rules change at Lutheran Hospital
At its June meeting, the Lutheran Medical Executive Committee will vote on a proposed rules change that affects daily patient rounding. The new language is included below.
“Exemptions to the daily visit by a physician apply to patients on a standardized surgical care path with a defined diagnosis and predictable outcome, when the patient’s care is being managed by an appropriately privileged Advanced Practice Provider (APP) or Physician. For such patients, the Attending/Admitting Physician may delegate daily rounding to an APP with appropriate clinical competence and privileges while assuring that there is no threat to life or limb and no significant risk of deterioration.
“If a patient requires additional diagnostic testing, escalation of care, or substantial interdisciplinary discussions related to new or evolving clinical concerns, the patient shall no longer qualify for this exemption and shall resume daily evaluation by the Attending Practitioner, as clinically indicated.”
All active members of the medical staff have the opportunity to provide comment for MEC members to consider before they vote on this change. If you have concerns or would like to express support for this change, please fill out the form below.
