Pulling the horizon closer

Thank you all for welcoming me as your new chief medical officer. Stepping into this new role has been daunting and exciting, expansive and revealing. Becoming CMO at Saint Joseph Hospital, the premier hospital in Colorado with an unmatched legacy of caring for this community, is nothing short of a thrill.
A little about me: Most recently, I served as the vice president of clinical operations for Integrative Emergency Services and market president for IES Colorado. It was through this door two years ago that I entered Saint Joseph Hospital and knew immediately this is where I wanted to stay.
Throughout my career, I've led physicians in Emergency Medicine groups, held medical staff positions, sat on hospital boards, and practiced at both non-profit and for-profit institutions. Nothing is better than working at a not-for-profit health care system that puts patients first. And no other not-for–profit institution feels like Saint Joseph.
The pride here is palpable. Our history has presence. The care we provide is undeniably and objectively the best in the market if not the region and attracts patients from across the nation. So, we smile. We’re kind. We’re inspired and we’re strong. You can feel it.
You can count on me to pursue whatever is needed for our patients’ best outcomes, while still being a mindful steward of our resources. The highest quality always, for the lowest cost. This is the balanced equation that allows us to provide the best care for today while investing in the best care for tomorrow.
My communications style is transparent, and my operational style is mission and vision forward. I strive to be approachable and consistent. Contact me with questions. Let me know when you’re frustrated. Celebrate with me when we’ve earned it. And, boy, have we earned it recently.
This summer, we were named #1 in Colorado by US News & World Report, unseating another hospital that claimed the throne for more than a dozen years.
Our nursing program was just designated Magnet with Distinction by ANCC, the first and only in Colorado to achieve it, placing it among the top nursing programs in the world. Yep, you read that right.
Just last week, our Trauma Program was awarded a level IV redesignation for another three years.
This week, we were awarded the Cardiogenic Shock Designation from ACC. We are the first hospital in Colorado and the second hospital in the NATION to receive this designation.
It’s always good to have the wind at your back when changes are ahead. I don’t have any additional information about how the joint venture with AdventHealth and our other Front Range hospitals will affect us. But when I have new information, I will share it.
Until then, we’re driving best-practice metrics higher in the ED, we’re increasing our volumes in the OR, we’re expanding our reach with new technologies and programs, and in those and a dozen other ways, we’re pulling achievements still out on the horizon closer to us.
