Reflecting on the first 100 days and the bright future ahead

By Amy Blasing, Saint Joseph Hospital President

As I close out my first 100 days as the new president at Saint Joseph Hospital, I want to reflect on my experience so far and talk about the bright future we have in front of us.

When I joined in late July, my goal was to get to know our caregivers, providers, physicians and leaders, and to listen and learn from you. I value the experience and contributions of all of you who have built this culture of excellence that I am so grateful to now be a part of.

I have been in the healthcare industry for more than 30 years and understand the financial and operational headwinds hospitals and health systems are facing. I also acknowledge that at Saint Joe’s, there are unique challenges we are currently navigating related to volumes and strategic growth. I understand that it will take some time, but despite these challenges, I am very optimistic about what’s to come, and here’s why.

We have robust business development plans in place to restore patient volumes and enhance service lines. We have some key prospects and additions to the Saint Joseph medical staff in numerous specialty areas including orthopedics, spine surgery, colorectal surgery, urology, bariatrics, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and neurosurgery. I will continue to share updates on our strategic growth initiatives as they develop.

We also have an unwavering focus on quality and safety. At Saint Joe’s, we hold ourselves to the highest patient-care standards and continue to be recognized for outstanding outcomes. In fact, we were recently honored in Vizient’s 2025 Quality Leadership Rankings as a first-time honoree in the Complex Care Medical Center cohort, ranking #13 out of 208 hospitals nationwide (93rd percentile). This recognition celebrates our physicians and caregivers who show up every day with compassion, expertise and a focus on continuous improvement.

Finally, and as equally important to help ensure our shared success, is the foundation that has been built on a legacy of service to the poor and vulnerable in our community. Our commitment to our mission remains strong. Even in my short time here, I can see that our leaders, caregivers and medical staff are deeply dedicated to providing the best care and experiences for our patients just as our founders, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, have guided us to do for more than 150 years.

I have enjoyed getting to know many of you and am looking forward to connecting with those of you I haven’t yet met. Please know that I value your feedback, so reach out to me with your thoughts and ideas. I am excited to write the next chapter in Saint Joseph Hospital’s history with you.
