Saint Joseph OR holiday schedule

Saint Joseph Hospital will offer a limited schedule in the OR during upcoming holidays. Surgeons and proceduralists are asked to consider this schedule as they plan their cases.

Christmas

The ORs and procedural areas will be open only for urgent/emergent cases on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 25. The same limited availability extends through the after-Christmas weekend – Saturday, Dec. 27, and Sunday, Dec. 28.

Friday, Dec. 26, will be a fully staffed and open day.

The New Year holiday weekend

For the New Year holiday weekend, the ORs and procedural areas will be open only for urgent/emergent cases on New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, as well as Saturday, Jan. 3, and Sunday, Jan. 4.

Friday, Jan. 2, will be a fully staffed and open day.

Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026:
Open for urgent/emergent cases only

Please note: On the holidays of Nov. 27, Dec. 24 and 25, and Jan. 1, there will be only one anesthesia practitioner and one operating room team available for cases.

“Please consider this limited availability if you need to take a patient to the operating room on these days and consider postponing cases that could be managed expectantly without compromising patient outcomes until a day on which the ORs are more completely staffed,” said John Tynes, MD, MBA, chief medical officer for Saint Joseph.

“We recognize that this could result in longer hospitalizations, and we do not want you to jeopardize patients unnecessarily. If you need to take a patient to the OR during these days, consider surgical approaches that are the fastest and most efficient, such as mini-laparotomy instead of laparoscopic or robotic, in order to return the OR to availability as soon as possible.”

Thank you for your help in keeping us as prepared as possible for emergencies that might arise during the holidays.
