St. Mary’s to Launch Dedicated Rapid Response Team Oct. 19
St. Mary's is restructuring its Clinical Rescue Team (CRT) and standing up a dedicated Rapid Response Team (RRT) to provide more consistent, 24/7 support when a patient's condition deteriorates. The redesigned Rapid Response process goes live on Monday, Oct. 19.
When a Rapid Response is activated, an overhead page will go out and a designated response team will arrive at the bedside according to the established response protocol. This gives caregivers rapid access to clinical expertise beyond what's available on the unit.
As your patient’s primary provider, you remain the primary point of contact and will continue to be involved in your patient’s care. The RRT is an additional resource, not a replacement for provider involvement — the primary nurse, charge nurse, or secondary caregiver is responsible for notifying you when an RRT is called on your patient, and you should continue to be kept informed and involved in decision-making.
If a caregiver needs urgent bedside assistance, they'll notify their charge nurse and call 55 to activate a full Rapid Response — rather than managing the situation alone. For non-urgent consultation and support, caregivers can also continue reaching out directly to the House Resource Nurse (CRT Nurse).
Note: The OR, CC, and ED will continue to manage emergencies within their own departments using their existing, established response processes.
