Five receive kudos for determined, relentless care

Lutheran often receives notes of praise and gratitude from your patients and their loved ones, as well as from your own colleagues, about remarkable care and acts of compassion. When the community takes the time to make sure you’re recognized for excellence, it’s our privilege to oblige and post their words here in Pulse. This month, five members of our medical staff received kudos for doing more than expected.

Summary of a conversation with a patient’s family member

“A patient’s loved one called to say she was in our ED with her cousin and she was so appreciative of Gina Canon, PA. She shared that Gina was incredible and so compassionate. She really helped them in a stressful moment. Gina tried to figure out what had happened at a different hospital when her cousin was a patient there, and Gina went through all her records and just went above and beyond. They wanted to make sure she got recognized.”

Email from a fellow physician

“I want to submit a kudos for Dr. Brittany Coveyou. She had a really difficult patient and family. It was a sad case where the patient was young and had been dishonest about her alcohol use to her family, so her illness came as a shock to them. Multiple consultants here told the patient/family she had an incurable condition, and they recommended Hospice. The family requested an additional opinion from another hospital, and Dr. Coveyou ended up calling multiple other hospitals even after her regular work hours because the family was so upset, knowing that the other hospitals would refuse transfer. She put in so much extra time and emotional energy into this case and still received no gratitude from the family. She went above and beyond what some doctors would do, including myself!”

Thank-you note from a patient

“My nurses and second doctor were so amazing! I have had many hospital stays in my life and by far Lutheran and my caregivers were so supportive, loving and went above and beyond for me and my medical needs. I've never experienced anything like it. There are no words to describe how grateful and cared for I felt. I couldn't have gotten this quality of care anywhere. Angela and Ally, and Eric and Dr. Jeffrey Bontrager made my stay so amazing that I never had to worry about anything. They are truly what every patient should experience. My heartfelt gratitude and respect for them, and thanks.”

Thank-you note from a patient

“We were so grateful for Dr. Matt Davoudzadeh. I had been pushing for over four hours, and they were threatening a c/s. Dr. Matt came on with a fresh set of eyes and told me, ‘I believe we can do this.’ I was able to have a vaginal delivery, and I credit him for giving me a chance.”

Thank-you note from a patient becomes an award nomination

Dr. Sanjay Arora from Anesthesia was amazing during my c/s. He gave us peace of mind, especially for my husband. He just brought levity to the whole situation, saying ‘This is what's going on.’ He was very involved in the process and even told stories just to keep it a calm and relaxed atmosphere.”

Colleagues were so impressed with the care and support he provided, they nominated him for an Intermountain Love Award:

“Dr. Arora is so friendly with the staff and his patients. He has a calming presence, which is highlighted by this patient's story. Her water broke six weeks early, and they were not expecting to deliver that soon or have their baby admitted to the NICU. Dr. Arora made this a positive experience for both the patient and her husband.”

Our sincere thanks to them an all members of our medical staff who never stop searching for answers or opportunities to offer comfort. If you would like to make sure a colleague is recognized in this space, please click here.
