11 nominated for Lutheran 2025 Physician of the Year Award!

Congratulations to the 11 physicians nominated by peers for Lutheran’s 2005 Physician of the Year Award! Your leadership and clinical skill have earned you the respect and appreciation of your colleagues, and we’re honored to feature you here.

Darryl Auston, MD, Orthopaedic Surgery: “He is very thorough in taking time with patients and family members to explain their medical conditions. Along with this, he exemplifies a true leader and has become a resource, mentor and a true problem-solver for all hospital staff.”

Brittany Coveyou, DO, Hospitalist: “An exemplary physician, not only defined by her clinical knowledge but by the compassionate, collaborative, approachable, patient-centered way she delivers care. Dr. Coveyou always arrives early, is organized, efficient and kind.”

Ramesh Devanesan, MD, Hospitalist: “Always going above and beyond for his patients.” Ed. note: We agree! But as a previous winner of this award, he’s not eligible to win again.

Ross Goldstein, MD, Diagnostic Radiology: “Dr. Goldstein is not just an incredible neuroradiologist, but a great advocate for the medical staff and his colleagues. He has been a wonderful resource for our complex neurology patients and helps improve processes and protocols to optimize patient care. He is smart, compassionate and dedicated to his craft.”

David Leventhal, MD, Emergency Medicine: “Dr. Leventhal works tirelessly to improve patient care. First, by starting the ED OBS Unit, and then by taking on the role of medical director of the ED while still running ED OBS. He is highly accessible to all staff members, listens to his team and implements policies to improve patient care and throughput.”

Jerry Miklin, MD, Cardiovascular Disease: “There are very few physicians who will go out of their way to help a patient the way Dr. Miklin will. Whenever I have needed to have a patient seen sooner rather than later, he has tried his very best to see and care for the patient.”

Robert J. Morelock, MD, Thoracic & Cardiac Surgery: “Dr. Morelock’s commitment to providing excellent patient care is unparalleled and his technical skill is an inspiration. Furthermore, he has contributed to the improvement of the culture at Lutheran by his efforts on the Peer Review Committee and by serving as a model of congeniality and collaboration.”

Franco Rea, MD, General Surgery: “Who else can say that they participate regularly in trauma surgery, vascular surgery and thoracic surgery? He is seemingly always available and willing to take calls, even on his days off. He is an excellent surgeon and a strong patient advocate. He puts in long hours in the ICU and at tumor board, and is an intelligent, thoughtful clinician.”

Travis Rinderle, DO, Hospice & Palliative Medicine: “Extremely consistent and hardworking. His patients love him and he brings patience, kindness and gentle support to patients at their most vulnerable times. He is extremely easy to work opposite of because of the consistent excellence of his work. He is an exemplary physician.”
