Good Sam earns COPPER designation
By Kevin Jenkins, Good Samaritan Hospital President
I am thrilled to share exciting news that reflects the dedication, expertise and compassion of our entire hospital community.
Last month, we had the honor of hosting site visitors from the state’s Colorado Pediatric Preparedness for the Emergency Room program, known as COPPER. Their visit was part of our journey toward becoming Pediatric Ready—and I am proud to announce that Good Samaritan Hospital has been recognized as a Pediatric Advanced facility under the COPPER program’s pediatric readiness tiers.
This prestigious designation is a testament to the incredible work happening at Good Sam, especially with our Emergency Department and Trauma teams. The reviewers were extremely impressed by our commitment to pediatric care, citing the following highlights.
Establishment of dedicated nurse and physician Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinators (PECCs)
Annual pediatric education and competency requirements for our ED staff
Strong collaboration with US Acute Care Solutions physicians and Intermountain Health facilities
Quality improvement initiatives for both nursing and physician teams
Staff-led design of pediatric skills days
Integration of pediatric education into all training sessions
Joint mass casualty and surge planning with local hospitals
Active engagement from departments including NICU, Chaplaincy, Anesthesiology and more
Ongoing enhancements to emergency management plans to better serve children
This designation is more than a recognition—it’s a reflection of Good Sam’s unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care to every child who comes through our doors. It reinforces our identity as your hospital for every chapter of life, where patients of all ages receive compassionate, quality care.
I want to thank the teams involved with achieving this designation and everyone for continuing to elevate our standards and inspire confidence in the communities we serve.
Congratulations to all on this well-deserved honor!
