4 new CNMs join Good Samaritan medical staff

Four certified nurse midwives have joined Intermountain Health and our medical staff to enhance obstetrics and gynecology care in Boulder County with their personalized approach and commitment to helping women experience low-intervention, natural childbirth.

Virginia Nagel, CNM, Meagann Little, CNM, Jacy Jeffrey-Howe, CNM, and Valorie Hauck-Sorensen, CNM, bring more than 40 years of experience in helping patients navigate the different stages of their health journeys. They see patients at Lafayette Women’s Clinic-OB-GYN and Superior Clinic-OB-GYN, and they deliver babies at Good Samaritan.

We recently visited Nagel in the Superior Clinic to learn more about her background. (Shown below, center, with hospital president Kevin Jenkins and CNM colleague Little.)

“I started in healthcare wanting to help women and families,” said Nagel. “What drew me to midwifery is that ‘midwife’ means with women, and my goal was to really empower women and to be a supportive factor in their lives.”

Nagel said the openness, tools and Good Samaritan’s support of low-intervention birth influenced her decision to move her practice to Intermountain Health.

“Each room at Good Samaritan has birthing tubs where moms can labor,” she said. “They also have birthing balls, peanut balls and support bars for when mom gets tired during labor.”

She added that if a laboring mother chooses to have medication for pain relief, the hospital has anesthesiology in house 24/7. If specialized care is needed for the baby after the delivery, Good Samaritan offers a neonatal intensive care unit, and the parents would be able to be nearby.

Meagann Little, CNM, has 10 years of experience. Her clinical interests include hormone replacement therapy and providing personalized care to optimize health and quality of life. Additionally, Little is passionate about normal physiologic birth, advocating for women to experience childbirth in the most natural and empowering way possible while offering education, support, and guidance throughout the pregnancy and delivery process.

Valorie Hauck-Sorensen, CNM, is committed to providing comprehensive, personalized care for women throughout every stage of life. She offers the full scope of midwifery services, including prenatal care, labor and birth support, postpartum care, well-woman exams, family planning and menopause management.

Jacy Jeffrey-Howe, CNM, provides a full range of midwifery services, including prenatal care, labor and delivery support, postpartum care, contraception counseling and annual wellness exams. She is passionate about partnering with patients to help them understand their bodies better and feel empowered to make decisions for themselves.

Please join us in welcoming these new practitioners to the Good Samaritan community!
