A new year and a shared commitment at Saint Joseph
By Stephanie Wilson, MD, Saint Joseph Hospital Chief of Staff
As we begin a new year and I step into the role of Chief of Staff, I want to take a moment to reflect on what the New Year often represents. A time to reset, recommit and return to the fundamentals that matter most.
At Saint Joseph Hospital, those fundamentals are clear to me.
This year marks my 19th year at Saint Joseph. I started as a 4th-year medical student in 2007, completed my Internal Medicine residency, was chief resident under the IM GME program, and I have served as a hospitalist and site director with MiM. I bring a deep understanding and appreciation of our shared history, culture and the relationships that connect our departments.
We are known for this exceptional culture, which is grounded in respect, collaboration and genuine care for one another and for our patients. This culture has not grown by accident. It has been built intentionally during many years by each of you, and it is something truly special.
For this and so many reasons, I am deeply committed to the future and longevity of Saint Joseph Hospital, an institution where I have devoted my career and intend to continue supporting for many years to come.
In my role as Chief of Staff, you can expect me to be approachable, easy to talk to and always open to ideas. I am committed to working collaboratively across departments to improve processes, strengthen communication and find ways to make us better, stronger and more efficient together. I value collaboration and believe that working together across disciplines is essential to improving processes, strengthening communication and becoming more effective and efficient as a medical staff.
My ask of you: As we welcome new members to our medical staff, we each play a role in preserving and strengthening what makes Saint Joseph Hospital unique. I encourage you to take the time to introduce yourselves, build connections and help new colleagues feel supported. Creating a strong team environment begins with simple, genuine interactions.
We often say that we are a family, and I believe that sentiment is felt not only among ourselves, but also by our patients and their families. They sense our culture the moment they walk through our doors, and it is a key reason they continue to choose Saint Joseph Hospital for their care. By working together, supporting one another and staying true to our core values, we will continue to deliver the high-quality, compassionate care for which we are known.
Before I let you go, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those who have helped shape my path to this role. I am deeply thankful to Dr. Ann Ryan for her outstanding leadership and mentorship during the past two years. We are better today because of her dedication, guidance and example.
I am also grateful to Midtown Inpatient Medicine for hiring, supporting and guiding me on my leadership journey. MiM has been a strong and dedicated partner with Saint Joseph Hospital, and their support has been instrumental in my growth.
Finally, I want to thank Dr. John Tynes and the members of the Medical Executive Committee for their trust and confidence in giving me the opportunity to serve as Chief of Staff. I am truly humbled to lead such an exceptional group of clinicians and leaders.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with suggestions for improving the care we provide or for enhancing our work life here at Saint Joseph. Thank you for all you do, and I look forward to working alongside you in the years ahead.
