Advanced care planning code status change

What is changing?

Starting Saturday, May 10, the new system-wide code status orders will include Full Code, DNR/DNI and DNR.

Why is it changing?

To standardize code status orders across the organization and to ensure that the patient’s preferences are clearly documented and followed during medical emergencies.

When each code status should be ordered:

  • Full code: The patient wishes to receive all possible life-saving interventions, including CPR, intubation, mechanical ventilation, defibrillation and advanced cardiac life support.

  • DNR/DNI: No CPR or intubation will be performed. In the event of cardiac or respiratory arrest, no resuscitative measures will be initiated.

  • DNR: The patient does not wish to receive CPR if their heart stops but may still receive respiratory support, including intubation and mechanical ventilation, if needed.

What will it look like?
