FDA recall alert for all local anesthetics in kitted trays

The FDA issued a recall of local anesthetics and saline manufactured by Huons Co. Ltd, due to reports the products are linked with cases of encephalitis and meningitis.

NOT SAFE for USE:

  • Spinal bupivacaine manufactured by Huons Co., Ltd or relabeled and distributed by Brookfield Pharmaceuticals

  • 1% plain lidocaine manufactured by Huons Co., Ltd or relabeled and distributed by Brookfield Pharmaceuticals

  • Normal saline manufactured by Huons Co., Ltd or relabeled and distributed by Brookfield Pharmaceuticals

  • Bupivacaine relabeled and distributed by Brookfield Pharmaceuticals

Across the enterprise, Supply Chain and Pharmacy are working to remove the affected local anesthetics and saline from prepackaged convenience/procedural kits or trays. All of the affected kits now have a warning label that directs the user to dispose of the lidocaine and/or Bupivacaine w/dextrose and request the bottles directly from Pharmacy. Those kits include:

  1. CVC kits

  2. Thoracentesis Tray

  3. Epidural Tray

  4. Spinal Tray

  5. Central Line Tray

  6. Lumber Tray - Adult & Peds

  7. Pacing Catheter Introducer

  8. Thora-Para Tray

  9. Art Line

  10. Radial Art Line

  11. Fem Art Line
