Guthrie confirmed as next chief of staff-elect

Travis Guthrie, MD, emergency medicine, has been confirmed by unanimous vote of the Active Medical Staff to serve as our next chief of staff-elect, alongside incoming chief of staff Brian Nordstrom Lane, MD, hospital medicine. His term will begin Friday, Jan. 1, 2027 and extend for two years, until Sunday, Dec. 31, 2028. At that time, he will become chief of staff.

At the close of voting, Guthrie sat down with Pulse and answered our top-three questions about choosing to lead the Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Staff.

Q: What interests you about medical staff executive leadership?

A: “Good Samaritan has been my home for the past 10 years and, for much of my time, I have served GSH in some capacity. Firstly, as the Continuing Education lead, then vice chair of Emergency Medicine, followed by chair of Emergency Medicine. Over the years I have built strong relationships with the other providers and hope to represent them well as chief of staff-elect and then chief of staff.”

Q: What do you feel is the biggest strength of the Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Staff?

A: “Collegiality. The medical staff at Good Samaritan, over many other places that I have worked in my career, treat each other with respect and kindness with focus on providing the appropriate care to the patients we serve. It doesn't matter if it’s 4 a.m. (though I really try not to wake people up this early!) or 4 p.m., I know that I am going to talk to someone who is going to listen and provide appropriate care and consultation.”

Q: What do you look forward to addressing during your term?

A: “I look forward to navigating the medical staff through another change with our joint venture with AdventHealth. Change like this is a time of significant anxiety, but also significant opportunity to make positive changes.”

Congratulations to Guthrie and thank you to everyone who voted, for your commitment to participating in essential medical staff business! Members who would like to contact Guthrie with questions or suggestions can click here.
