New Billings OB-GYN Practice Opens
This month, Intermountain Health opened a new OB-GYN practice in Billings, expanding obstetrics and gynecology services to help meet the growing needs of women and families across our region.
"Opening this practice marks an important step in strengthening women's health services in Billings. By bringing together OB-GYN, midwifery and maternal fetal medicine expertise, we are creating a connected system of care and building the capacity to serve our region for years to come," said Lee Boyles, president of St. Vincent Regional Hospital and the Montana | Wyoming Market for Intermountain Health.
Meet our new medical director
Please join us in welcoming Julianna Papez, DO, as medical director of the new practice. Dr. Papez grew up in Billings and is excited to once again care for patients in her hometown. For the past year, she has cared for patients in Cody, Wyo., and she will continue serving that community while she helps lead the Billings practice. If you see her in the halls, please say hello!
"It is an honor to help shape the future of women's health in our community. We are building a program where women and families can feel supported and confident in their care, with greater access to comprehensive services through every stage of life. I am excited about what we are creating together and the difference it will make," said Dr. Papez.
A new partner in the hospital
In the coming weeks, Julie Middleton, MD, will join the practice as an OB-GYN hospitalist. She'll support mothers through labor and delivery, including urgent obstetric needs. She'll also provide hospital-based gynecologic care, from consults for women who come to our Emergency Department with gynecologic concerns to urgent gynecologic surgery. For our Labor & Delivery, surgical and emergency teams, that means having a dedicated OB-GYN right alongside you, so patients get timely, expert care when it matters most.
What's ahead
Over the coming months, we plan to grow the practice to 15 providers. Patients will first be seen at the Downtown Women's Health and Midwifery Clinic, and we plan to offer appointments at other Intermountain Health clinics in Billings. The new practice will join our current Women's Health and Midwifery providers and our Maternal Fetal Medicine and Gynecologic Oncology physicians, so women can get a wider range of OB-GYN care in Billings.
We also remain committed to working with Billings OBGYN Associates, our longtime partner in caring for women and families.
Building on a legacy you helped create
Across St. Vincent Regional Hospital, Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City and St. James Hospital in Butte, Intermountain Health delivers more babies each year than anyone else in Montana. In 2025 alone, we welcomed 2,383 babies. That legacy belongs to each of you, and this new practice helps us keep being the provider growing families trust.
