Our commitment to reduce infection risk
By Scott Peek, Front Range Market President
Hand hygiene is considered by regulatory agencies to be the most significant element in healthcare practice to reduce infection risk in patients. Since 2018, The Joint Commission has placed so much attention on hand hygiene that surveyors will cite one caregiver missing an opportunity for hand hygiene as a hospital deficiency in Infection Control.
Here at Saint Joseph Hospital, we are blessed to have the opportunity to provide care for patients from the very beginning of life to the final chapter of someone’s story. As we accompany our patients through their journeys, we have a responsibility to protect them from hospital-acquired infections by performing hand hygiene before, during and after caring for them — 100 percent of the time. Keeping our hands clean makes a world of difference to the most vulnerable of our patients.
We encourage all members of the care team who touch patients in the course of their job duties to take a moment to review our hand hygiene policy and commit themselves to preventing hospital-transmitted disease in their patients. They place their well-being in our hands.
Sincerely,
Scott
