St. Mary’s Kudos

Thirteen clinicians received kudos from patients and colleagues last month for exceptional partnership and compassionate care. We’re proud to recognize them by posting the comments we’ve received on their behalf in Pulse.

Colleague-to-Colleague Kudos

The Power of Not Prescribing: Physicians Modeling Good Antimicrobial Stewardship:

Drs. Bao Nhi Nguyen, Mitch Gershten, Justin Helberg, David Ling, Louis-Bassett ‘Dash’ Porter, and Kyle Inman for (1) NOT prescribing antibiotics for asymptomatic bacteriuria and (2) great documentation in support of that!

Kudos to Allie Trudel, MD, for recognizing a colonized suprapubic catheter and NOT prescribing antibiotics!

Kudos to Mark Griffin, MD, for questioning a dubious penicillin allergy and successfully testing and delabeling it. (Click here to learn more about Intermountain Health’s penicillin delabeling initiative).

From our Regional Command Center:

Tej Singh, MD, deserves recognition for being so incredibly nice, thoughtful, patient centered and supportive of other physicians/APPs — even on a holiday. On a recent call with the transfer center, Dr. Singh immediately remembered the patient the caller was asking about. He partnered with the caller to determine a plan of care, offering various choices depending upon the patient’s symptoms and preferences. He said several times, “I’m here,” and made it clear that he was available, offering himself as an accepting attending if needed. Together, they queried the patient’s preferences: “I can just wait here while you talk to her, to save you another phone call.” Without having to call back, they jointly developed an alternative plan for the clinic to see the patient the following day. Dr. Singh also made sure the caller communicated a plan for the patient to pack her things in anticipation of staying for a procedure.

From Matt Cyphers, MD:

A brief—and insufficient—note of deep gratitude to Charles Tate, MD, for taking care of my loved one, who was more nervous about the procedure than I think they let on ... you apparently are our "family cardiac electrophysiologist."  Please pass on to Matthew Frakes, DO, if you can. You are an invaluable resource to our hospital and community, and indeed our whole region.

Patient to Physician Kudos

I just wanted to say thanks to the two doctors who took care of me. It’s so easy to complain nowadays, but they performed great care. They were excellent. Drs. Kathryn Spangler and Monica Ayala were very attentive.
