St. Mary’s Transistions to Formal Rapid Response Team

To support earlier intervention for patients showing signs of clinical deterioration, St. Mary's is transitioning from our current Critical Response Team (CRT) model to a formal Rapid Response Team (RRT).

The previous CRT process relied on a nurse assessment followed by paging the appropriate provider or resource(s). Under the RRT model, staff will activate a rapid response by calling 55, which will simultaneously page the RRT team and announce the response overhead. The responding team will be tailored to the patient population. 

When an RRT is activated, the patient's attending provider or APP will be paged simultaneously. The patient's primary provider remains responsible for the patient's care and may assume the rapid response lead provider role at any point during the rapid response. This model brings the appropriate clinical resources to the bedside quickly, supports timely assessment and intervention, and improves communication during patient deterioration events.
