Sixteen St. Mary’s Medical Staff Receive Kudos

This month, we’re proud to include several compliments recognizing members of St. Mary’s medical staff. Many of these kudos were thoughtfully submitted by colleagues who took the time to highlight exceptional teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care. Thank you for the everyday ways you support one another and strengthen our culture.

Colleague-to-Colleague:

During recent St. Mary’s Senior Leadership Team rounding, two caregivers on the 9th floor Neurology unit praised Anna Bowman, MD, for her willingness to partner closely with nursing, as well as her dedication to teaching and collaboration. Thank you, Dr. Bowman, for contributing to a positive culture and living our Intermountain values. We truly are better together!

Alin Cheran, MD, received high compliments from two St. Mary’s caregivers during a recent Mortality Meeting. Dr. Cheran was described as approachable, kind, and collaborative when he was asked whether his patient might be a candidate for hospice. He was respectful and took the time explain why she is not currently a candidate, and he committed to reconnecting with them next week to revisit the idea as things evolve.

A physician colleague complimented Steven Gammon, MD, for his steady leadership and professionalism during an unexpected staffing challenge that led to a recent 16-hour diversion of orthopedic patients, writing: When our locum APP became ill and couldn’t travel in for the overnight shift, Dr. Gammon, who was the attending on service, took this hiccup in stride, was very graceful about it, didn’t complain at all, voiced thoughtful concerns, and stayed the course. We’re grateful for his calm, team-first approach.

During an emergent call from St. Mary’s Labor and Delivery, a post–C-section patient rapidly decompensated and required urgent airway support. A huge thank you to Michael Krieves, MD, and Brandon Potter, MD, as well as the team at the bedside, for their calm, coordinated response and exceptional teamwork. Dr. Krieves quickly secured the airway under challenging positioning while the team provided critical support and seamless coordination with NICU and ICU to prepare for safe transfer. Additionally, David Ling, DO, provided steady, compassionate communication with the patient’s spouse during a highly stressful moment. This was a chaotic situation handled with skill, professionalism, and outstanding patient-centered care.

After a recent “Interprofessional Communication” session with new nurses, a St. Mary’s nurse specifically highlighted Zane Scott, DO, for outstanding, responsive, patient-centered communication when nurses raise questions. Thank you, Dr. Scott, for role modeling professionalism and strong communication!

A St. Mary’s physician recently nominated Kyle DeLong, PA, for a L.O.V.E Award, writing: Thank you for your dedication to the patients we see at the wound clinic. You never hesitate to make the extra effort to contact patients, providers, and other services. You make a difference. I'm grateful to work with you! Where many providers would only leave a comment in a progress note, Kyle will call and discuss the patient's needs with whatever provider or entity that would benefit the patient by having a conversation. He'll sometimes call two or three different providers about a single patient to help coordinate the most effective plan of care.

The St. Mary’s Leadership Team shared that, on a recent night marked by continuous critical care demands, despite staffing challenges and high-acuity patients, the ED and ICU teams at St. Mary’s showed remarkable resilience, collaboration, and dedication to both patients and one another. Drs. Kathryn Pierce, Louis-Bassett Porter, and Michael Forte displayed partnership, trust, and leadership in coordinating patient movement plans and responding rapidly to critical situations. Nights like this truly highlight the strength, skill, and teamwork that define our medical staff.

The St. Mary’s Leadership Team shared a heartfelt thank you to the Orthopedic Trauma Service team for their extraordinary teamwork during the past few months of APP staffing shortages. The OTS APPs have consistently stepped up to cover extra shifts whenever possible, and at times, Drs. Steven Gammon, Luke Myhre, and Thomas Githens have carried the service on their own. Through it all, this team has maintained a positive attitude, showing resilience, flexibility, and dedication to supporting one another and the patients who rely on them.

Patient-to-Clinician:

Zachary Bohn, PA, was amazing and very thorough. Took the time to actually talk to me and address my concerns.

Kishan Patel, MD, and all of my nurses were great.

Megan Trzaskoma, DO, is an excellent doctor. She was very understanding, listened to my loved one’s concerns, and spent a lot of time with them.
