IMED APP Representative Candidate Statement: Paul Jacob Sharp, DNP

I have been in healthcare for over 15 years. I started as a Patient Care Tech on the Medical Telemetry floor. I obtained my BSN at Westminster College, at which time I transitioned to the nursing role. From there I spent 5+ years as a nurse in the Thoracic ICU, serving as a charge nurse, member of the mechanical circulatory support team, and balloon pump team. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Arizona, specializing as Adult-Gerontological Acute Care Practitioner and spent one year practicing in primary care/internal medicine prior to being sent to New York with the Intermountain contingent to support COVID-19 response efforts. After returning from New York, I transitioned back into the hospital as an APP in Critical Care Medicine where I have worked since mid-2020.

Education is a core professional passion of mine, with a focus on undergraduate and graduate nursing and interprofessional education. I greatly enjoy precepting NP & PA students during clinical rotations and capstone experiences. Teaching the transition from learner to medical provider is deeply meaningful to me, and I find great fulfillment in supporting students as they build clinical confidence, critical thinking, and professional identity.

I am deeply committed to my role as an APP and advocate for all APPs. We contribute a unique perspective to the interdisciplinary team that is essential to high-quality patient care. If selected as the APP representative on Intermountain Medical Center’s Medical Executive Committee I will take this passion and perspective to advocate for all APPs at IMED. I believe that diversity of perspectives strengthens all providers and clinicians. I will strive to bring the unique APP perspective to the MEC so that, together, we can continue supporting our patients in living the healthiest lives possible.

When all members of the multidisciplinary team work in concert, we are better able to realize Intermountain Health’s vision of becoming a model health system.

Thank you for your consideration.
